NEW SCAM TARGETS COURT INTERPRETERS

Friday, January 26, 2018

Court interpreters in several states recently received a scam email requesting money to be listed in the Judiciary's National Court Interpreter Database (NCID).  The scam message, which appeared as though it were sent by AO Director James C. Duff, requested interpreters wire money through Western Union to a person in Iowa. The email is fraudulent and did not come from the United States Courts or Director Duff.  The Judiciary has never required anyone to pay a fee to be listed in the NCID, which is used by federal courts to locate contract interpreters.

The AO is notifying relevant law enforcement agencies about this scam.  If you receive this fraudulent email, please email NCID_Help@ao.uscourts.gov.  Please share this message with any interpreters that you know.
