Preparing for NextGen

NextGen requires each attorney to have his/her own individual PACER account.  If an attorney does not have an individual PACER account, the attorney must create one before the Court upgrades to NextGen.  Shared PACER accounts cannot be used by filing attorneys once the court has upgraded.  Firms may set up a PACER Administrative Account to help manage attorney accounts and have those individual accounts centrally billed for PACER access fees.  For more information on PAA Accounts review Information regarding PACER Administrative Accounts.  To register for a PACER Administrative Account, visit https://www.pacer.gov/reg_firm.html.

E-Filers must do the following in order to file in NextGen CM/ECF:

  1. Obtain your own individual PACER account or upgrade your existing individual PACER account.  Existing "Legacy" PACER accounts (accounts issued prior to August 11, 2014) must be upgraded.
  2. CJA Attorneys will only need one PACER account for filing and viewing in CM/ECF NextGen. If you have a separate exempt CJA account now, those exempt privileges will be added to your individual upgraded PACER account and your current exempt account will be canceled. Click here for instructions on requesting the CJA fee exemption.
  3. Know your current CM/ECF Login and Password. Make sure attorneys know their CM/ECF login and password before the court upgrades to NextGen.  If the login information is stored in the browser, it will be lost and not recoverable.  If an attorney does not know his/her login or password, they should contact the court for a reset.
  4. Link your upgraded PACER account to your CM/ECF account.  NOTE Attorneys will NOT be able to file in NextGen until their ECF account is linked to their upgraded individual PACER account.  This linkage, however, cannot be done until AFTER the court upgrades to NextGen.  Click here to view the step by step instructions you will perform on or after August 9, 2019 to link a CM/ECF account to an upgraded PACER account.
